This Department brings motion to still life...
The Animation Department consists of two Divisions:
- Inworld Animations: A mixture of techniques including post-processed motion-capture animations and direct posing of a virtual mannequin is used. A sample stillframe adjacent shows an example of a pose prepared for the October, 2007 "pre-preview" trailer. We may also be working with the tech department to utilize a real time motion capture system.
- Postwork/Machinima Animations: Because Second Life's current platform does not allow for lipsynched mouth movement, a degree of postwork on the lips is required for a dialogue-intensive play. After the shots are finalized, the unmoving lips are animated based on corresponding voice phonemes. (To the left are two examples.) This department also includes compositing.
